Tibetan Buddhist exiled spiritual leader, Dalai Lama, arrived in New York on June 23, 2024, for knee treatment, greeted by thousands of supporters. His possible meeting with local officials during his stay in the US is under scrutiny. The 88-year-old Dalai Lama's office in Dharamsala, India announced his trip to the US for knee 'treatment.' Supporters gathered outside his Manhattan hotel, dressed in colorful traditional Tibetan attire, welcoming him. Prior to his US visit, US lawmakers including Nancy Pelosi met with the Dalai Lama in Dharamsala, sparking criticism from China. It remains unclear if Dalai Lama will meet any US officials during his stay. The Nobel Peace Prize laureate, who renounced his political leadership role in 2011, has been battling health issues and has been in exile in India since his failed uprising against Chinese rule in Tibet in 1959.
