Dangerous Driving Leading to Traffic Hazards: Maximum Fine of NT$36,000 and 3 Demerit Points for Violators

Reported 12 months ago

On July 2, 2024, journalist Qiu Yifang reported that on March 7, the Executive Yuan passed an amendment to the 'Road Traffic Management Penalty Regulations,' which was officially approved by the legislature on May 14 and took effect on June 30. The revised regulations impose fines of up to NT$1,200 for minor violations, including driving while holding a mobile phone, smoking while driving, not signaling when reversing, and more. Serious offenses like dangerous driving, running red lights, and failure to yield to pedestrians can still be reported. Repeat offenders engaging in dangerous driving behaviors such as deliberately speeding up or abruptly changing lanes may face fines of NT$6,000 to NT$36,000, a six-month license suspension, and 3 demerit points. The public is encouraged to report dangerous driving through official channels provided by local police stations to maintain road safety and order.
