Reported about 1 year ago
Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen was assaulted in Copenhagen on the 7th, sustaining minor injuries; the male suspect was promptly arrested and appeared in court today without details on his identity, motive, or possession of weapons revealed by authorities. Witnesses reported the attacker pushing Frederiksen forcefully before being apprehended. While receiving medical check-ups after resting in a nearby cafe, Frederiksen was reported to be able to walk away on her own with no serious injuries aside from being startled and slightly wounded, as confirmed by a government statement. The attacker, a 39-year-old man, faced trial in the afternoon. The incident, occurring during the European Parliamentary elections, was denounced by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen as a despicable act contradicting European values. About three weeks prior, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico also survived a gunshot attack in his country.
