According to Chinese media reports by Jiemian News, China's Ministry of Civil Affairs released Q1 statistics showing a decrease in marriage registrations to 1.969 million pairs compared to 2.147 million pairs in the same period in 2023, representing a drop of 178,000 pairs or about 8.3%. The decline is attributed to a decrease in the number of young people, gender imbalance in the marriageable population, and delayed age of first marriage due to factors such as high marriage costs, economic pressures, and changing attitudes towards marriage and childbirth.
