Department Stores Join E-commerce 618 to Boost Makeup Sales

Reported about 1 year ago

According to a report from Taipei by Li Liman on June 17, 2024, at 4:10 pm, this year's Mother's Day makeup sales in department stores fell short of expectations due to a decline in overseas travel frequency and the depreciation of the Japanese yen. The trend of buying makeup and skincare products while traveling abroad has further impacted domestic makeup counter sales. To counteract this, makeup counters and open-shelf makeup products have focused on promoting sales through e-commerce platforms, with a decline in sales ranging from 5% to 8%. In response, businesses are participating in the e-commerce 618 shopping festival to seize opportunities. For example, Shin Kong Mitsukoshi's online platform, skm online, launched the summer 618 shopping festival offering discounts up to 60% off storewide and various promotions to attract new members and increase transactions. Furthermore, to energize the shopping atmosphere during the 618 shopping peak, the Ta Chiang Shopping Center has initiated a 'Super Brand Day' promotion by collaborating with numerous brands, offering gift vouchers to incentivize purchases, and encouraging young customers' shopping enthusiasm. It is noted that during the 618 period, both department stores and pharmacies in Taiwan are actively participating in the sales spike. Watsons, a leading pharmacy chain, has already launched a promotion offering 1 extra item for every 700 items purchased, along with various discounts and free shipping coupons for in-store and pick-up points. This move is expected to drive sales growth by at least 10%.
