Former U.S. presidents are eligible for Social Security benefits, provided they paid into the system during their working years, with the notable exception of Jimmy Carter, who is covered by the Civil Service Retirement System. While they can receive Social Security, their retirement benefits extend far beyond that, including significant pensions, staff allowances, and other perks like office space and Secret Service protection, all established under the Former Presidents Act.
