Reported on June 10, 2024 by SET News, the 2024 Kaohsiung Love River Dragon Boat Festival featured international teams from the US, Japan, the Philippines, and 15 other cities competing in a friendly race. Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chi-mai led a team and engaged in playful banter with the US and Japan teams before the race, and also exchanged challenges with the council team. Despite the humor, all teams had to put in effort during the race, with the Japan-Taiwan team taking an early lead. The event highlighted the growing international participation in the Love River Dragon Boat races.
