A breakfast shop in Taipei's Nangang recently implemented a rule where customers must spend at least 80 yuan on a meal in order to dine in with air-conditioning, as a response to increasing costs due to rising electricity prices and ingredients. The owner explained that due to customers ordering small meals and occupying seats for long periods, resulting in a monthly cost increase of 20,000 yuan, the minimum spending rule was enforced. Similar discussions were sparked by another shop in Linkou, New Taipei, where a customer was uncomfortable with being informed of the 45 yuan per person minimum spending rule for ordering a 200 yuan mango ice dessert.
