Economic Affairs Minister Kuo Chih-hui, who once mentioned considering nuclear power, later changed his stance after reported pressure from higher-ups, stating on a TV show that electricity prices shouldn't be too cheap as it leads to wastage. In response, Kuomintang legislator Yang Chiung-ying emphasized the need for a comprehensive approach in tackling energy issues rather than blaming citizens. She questioned Kuo on the number of rooms in his home and suggested setting an example through public sector energy reduction efforts. Yang also highlighted structural factors affecting electricity prices and the need for sound data and future policy planning on energy issues in Taiwan.
