Amidst a sharp decrease in tourism due to a strong earthquake in Hualien in the East Taiwan Experience in July 2, 2024, the Ministry of Economic Affairs gathered its subsidiaries and community platforms to connect local businesses in Hualien that have received assistance, creating ten hiking trails and cycling routes featuring unique products like volcanic tofu and organic bitter gourd. The goal is to encourage post-earthquake tourism in Hualien and promote the beauty of Eastern Taiwan. The Ministry has been supporting local industries such as traditional crafts and deep-sea water for 15 years, including fostering indigenous youth in woodworking skills, assisting in upgrading the aquaculture and winemaking industries, and facilitating collaborations with foreign companies for developing premium sturgeon products and local wines. To further enhance innovation in Eastern Taiwan, the Ministry is launching the 'Eastern Innovation Project' focusing on AI and low-carbon technologies to boost smart agriculture, low-carbon manufacturing, and technology tourism, attracting more young entrepreneurs to return to the region.
