On June 26, 2024, Education Minister Zheng Yingyao faced criticisms over the frequent errors found in the revised edition of the Ministry of Education's 'Revised Mandarin Dictionary,' with examples like the phrase 'dot dot dot' being perceived as having sexual connotations and wrongly stating that the Mississippi River is the world's longest. KMT legislator Yeh Yuanzhi proposed a 'National Find Fault' event during questioning, which Minister Zheng promptly agreed to. Yeh highlighted the need for corrections in the dictionary, citing instances such as inappropriate sexual implications in example sentences and factual errors like wrongly naming the longest river. After discussions, the controversial example sentence was removed from the dictionary. Yeh suggested the event to engage the public in identifying and rewarding errors found in the dictionary to improve its accuracy with help from professionals across different fields. Minister Zheng welcomed the idea, emphasizing the collaborative effort to enhance the dictionary's quality.
