Agriculture Minister Chen Junqi has once again urged F&B operators and other consumers to lower the price of eggs as egg sales continue to remain sluggish in the country. Local egg prices at the source and wholesale levels have dropped by 3 yuan this week, reaching new 2-year lows at 27.5 and 37 yuan per catty respectively. Chen reiterated that the main reason for egg oversupply is the lack of synchronous price adjustments at the consumption end, causing dissatisfaction among the public and hampering demand recovery. He emphasized the importance of moderately lowering egg prices at places like breakfast shops. Chen also mentioned that the Ministry of Agriculture has held a special meeting to address egg production and sales issues, indicating plans to accelerate the elimination of low-yielding older hens and delay the entry of pullets for egg production to balance supply and demand.
