In the past three months, domestic egg prices in Taiwan have plummeted close to a 4-year low, dropping to as low as 25.5 yuan per catty at the source. Despite subsidies from the Department of Agriculture, egg farmers in the central and southern regions are struggling to survive, selling chickens for as little as 30 yuan each. The situation has forced farmers to sell off thousands of chickens as they face losses of up to 300,000 yuan per month. The oversupply of eggs has led to this crisis, with no relief in sight for egg farmers.
