Domestic egg prices have plummeted over the past three months, with prices reaching a near four-year low at 25.5 yuan per kilogram at the source. The Ministry of Agriculture has initiated an 'Emergency Elimination Plan for Egg-Laying Hens' to tackle daily production surplus, planning to eliminate 1.8 million hens this month and provide a subsidy of 20 yuan per hen. However, egg farmers are still losing 300,000 yuan a month, resulting in them being forced to sell chickens at 30 yuan each to stop the bleeding. Industry stakeholders criticize the government's failure in supply control, leading to a vicious cycle of egg shortages and production surplus. The actual subsidy received by egg farmers per hen is only 9 yuan after deducting expenses such as transportation and slaughter fees, causing significant financial strain on farmers.
