An 86-year-old man surnamed Liu in Chiayi was riding his scooter past the Chuqi Station No. 56 level crossing. Due to heavy rain, he did not notice the crossing gate had already come down. He failed to brake in time, sliding onto the railroad tracks with his scooter. Fortunately, the train was able to emergency stop in time. Liu refused medical treatment and was taken by the police to clarify the situation. The incident caused a 23-minute delay for 156 passengers. Police will fine Liu according to traffic regulations and may suspend his driver's license for a year.
