According to Deutsche Welle on June 27, 2024, German Chancellor Scholz has proposed a compromise solution regarding the tariff dispute between the EU and China over Chinese electric vehicle subsidies. He suggests that both parties impose the same high tariffs on car imports. Currently, discussions involve imposing a 15% tariff on imported cars, but this number may change. The final tariff decision will be announced in November this year. The EU Commission initiated negotiations with China last week concerning the tariff dispute, with some differences in opinion on Scholz's suggestion.
