Elon Musk, who previously vowed to not own a house, was reported to have discussed purchasing a small home from a Tesla board director, priced around $400,000. Despite his statements in 2020, Musk bought a house in Austin in 2022. His interest was in a factory-built house from Samara, a startup known for prefabricated homes ranging from $269,000 to over $414,000. The transaction involving Musk and Samara is currently on hold, with Samara's founder stepping down from a Tesla committee out of caution.
