Elon Musk recently laid out plans for a full return-to-office mandate for federal employees in an op-ed for the Wall Street Journal, as part of his efforts to improve government efficiency. He and his co-lead, Vivek Ramaswamy, suggested that requiring federal workers to be in the office five days a week could prompt voluntary resignations to cut costs, a notion supported by a survey indicating that some CEOs favor return-to-office policies for this reason. With over 2.2 million federal employees, approximately half currently work on-site. The implementation of these plans remains uncertain.
