EU Plans Phase-Out of Russian Aluminum Imports Amid Sanctions

Reported 2 days ago

The European Union is set to propose a phased ban on Russian aluminum imports as part of a comprehensive sanctions package coinciding with the third anniversary of the Kremlin's invasion of Ukraine. The plan, which targets around 70 dark-fleet vessels and 15 banks from the SWIFT banking system, aims to address increasing pressure for tougher measures against Russia. While the ban would permit imports under a quota for one year, final approval from all member states is required, as some, including Hungary, have expressed resistance to further sanctions.
