Euro falls as Macron calls snap French election

Reported 11 months ago

The euro fell after far-right gains in European Parliament elections led French President Emmanuel Macron to call a snap national election. The uncertainty in France adds to a busy week with U.S. inflation data, the Federal Reserve's policy decision, and a Bank of Japan meeting. The euro dropped to $1.0733, its lowest since May 9, and slid against sterling and the Swiss franc. Increased U.S. dollar strength following strong jobs data has traders reconsidering rate cut expectations, and upcoming CPI data will drive further Fed forecasts.
