On June 27, 2024, a European city train traveling from Prague, Czech Republic to Budapest, Hungary collided with a local bus near Nove Zamky in southwestern Slovakia, resulting in 7 known deaths and 5 injuries. The passengers who lost their lives were on the bus. The train had over 100 passengers and the engine caught fire, with minor injuries to the driver who managed to escape. The bus was severely damaged and split in two. Investigations are ongoing as to why the bus was hit at a level crossing with barriers. The main railway line from Bratislava, Slovakia to Budapest, Hungary will be temporarily closed, with unaffected train passengers being transported by bus to Hungary.
