Ex-Girlfriend Inherits $1 Million Retirement Account After 40 Years

Reported 7 months ago

Following a breakup in 1987, Jeffrey Rolison accidentally left his ex-girlfriend, Margaret Sjostedt, as the sole beneficiary of his work retirement account. Nearly 40 years later, Margaret, now known as Peggy, is set to inherit the $1 million retirement account because Rolison never updated the beneficiary form. Despite their split in 1989, Peggy was still listed as the beneficiary when Rolison passed away in 2015. Rolison's brothers have been contesting the claim in federal court against Procter & Gamble, where he had named Margaret as his beneficiary, trying to prevent her from receiving the funds. The court has ruled in favor of Margaret Losinger (Peggy) in 2020, with the brothers continuing their legal challenge.
