Australia's leading supermarket chains, Woolworths and Coles, anticipate millions in extra costs following a federal court ruling on historical underpayments affecting nearly 27,000 employees. Woolworths estimates a post-tax charge between A$180 million and A$330 million, while Coles expects an additional A$150 million to A$250 million in remediation costs. Both companies are assessing the implications of the ruling, which stemmed from a case brought by the Fair Work Ombudsman in 2020.
