Taiwan's Central Weather Bureau observed a record high temperature of 39.8°C in Kaohsiung Qijin yesterday, with Pingdong Napiu closely following at 38.4°C. The bureau issued a high-temperature alert for 18 cities and counties, warning of extreme temperatures exceeding 38°C in southern Taiwan and reminding people to stay hydrated and protected from the heat to prevent heatstroke. Red alerts were issued for Pingdong, orange alerts for Tainan and Kaohsiung, and yellow alerts for other regions. The heatwave is expected to continue, with no relief in sight.
