The Royal Canadian Geographical Society announced the discovery of polar explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton's last ship, the Quest, 390 meters underwater off the coast of Newfoundland and Labrador. Shackleton died aboard the ship in 1922 near South Georgia in the South Atlantic. The international team led by the Society used sonar to locate the shipwreck after days of expedition and plan to visually document it and its artifacts. Shackleton's granddaughter and local Indigenous groups expressed gratitude for the discovery in their waters.
