In a recent Senate committee hearing, FAA Administrator Mike Whitaker admitted that the Federal Aviation Administration should have conducted more thorough inspections rather than relying on paperwork audits, referencing the failure of a Boeing 737 Max panel during an Alaska Airlines flight in January. Following the incident, the FAA has increased its oversight of Boeing by placing more inspectors in their factories and their chief supplier, Spirit AeroSystems. The FAA, along with the Justice Department and the National Transportation Safety Board, are continuing investigations into Boeing's manufacturing practices.
