On July 1, 2024, a fire broke out in a 6-story building on Shengnan Street in Tainan City, trapping at least four individuals. Despite the rescue efforts, a 69-year-old woman named Chen was found dead in the elevator on the 6th floor. Fire prevention expert Chen Zhenxiong of the Tainan City Fire Department reminded the public to use staircases instead of elevators during fires, as being trapped in an elevator during a fire could lead to higher risk of injury or death due to smoke and pressure. It is safer to evacuate horizontally in contaminated vertical areas. This incident emphasizes the importance of fire safety precautions.
