On June 23, 2024, a fire broke out at a pet grooming shop on Zhongshan Road in Hualien City, Taiwan. The fire quickly spread to neighboring businesses, prompting a massive response from 155 firefighters and 45 vehicles. Despite the intense flames, all 20-plus pets were successfully rescued, with bystanders even performing CPR and mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. Unfortunately, one 17-year-old dog succumbed to smoke inhalation. The firefighters faced challenges due to the rapid spread of fire in the wooden building structure. After initial control, the fire rekindled at night, necessitating further emergency responses. One volunteer firefighter suffered minor injuries. Investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
