Fire at South Korean Lithium Battery Factory! 22 Perish, 17 of them Chinese Nationals, China Urges Swift Investigation

Reported 8 months ago

A severe fire broke out at the Aricell lithium battery factory in Hwaseong, South Korea on June 24, lasting from morning until afternoon to be extinguished due to the difficulty of putting out lithium battery fires. The incident resulted in 22 fatalities, including more than 10 Chinese workers. China's Ambassador to South Korea Xing Haiming has visited the site, urging a prompt investigation into the cause of the fire. The factory, specializing in lithium batteries for sensors and wireless communication devices, experienced a series of explosions caused by the approximately 35,000 lithium batteries stored in a warehouse, leading to rapid spread of the fire and building collapse. Foreign workers and temporary employees, mainly Chinese nationals, perished in the fire with slim chances of escape due to toxic and highly flammable materials, highlighting the need for safety measures and emergency preparedness in such industries.
