First 'Ramstein 1v1' Air Combat Exercise Held with NATO Pilots Practicing Skills

Reported 11 months ago

On June 6, 2024, the US Air Forces in Europe (USAFE) organized the first 'Ramstein 1v1' (Ramstein1v1) air combat exercise at the Ramstein Air Base in Germany, with pilots from 9 NATO countries flying 37 4th and 5th generation fighter jets such as F-35, F-16, F/A-18, Eurofighter Typhoon, and Boeing F/A-18 Hornet to enhance their air combat skills through dissimilar air combat training. The exercise marked a rare occurrence post-Cold War where NATO aircraft engaged in 1v1 dogfights and basic air combat drills to improve mutual defense capabilities, aiming to make 'Ramstein 1v1' a routine exercise held three times a year to train more NATO pilots.
