Yahoo News reported on June 21, 2024, that the US and China resumed the first semi-official nuclear dialogue in five years in March this year, with Beijing representatives assuring the US that they would not use nuclear threats over the Taiwan issue. During the talks, US expressed concerns about China potentially using or threatening to use nuclear weapons in the event of conflict in Taiwan, while Chinese representatives assured that they believe they can win in conventional battles on Taiwan without using nuclear weapons. The two-day discussion, known as a Track Two dialogue, involved former officials and scholars, aiming to provide insights that may be beneficial despite not directly influencing policy decisions.
