On June 17, 2024, at 11:55 PM, a 4.9 magnitude earthquake struck Hualien with a shallow depth of 12.4 kilometers, reaching intensity level 4 in Hualien, level 3 in Yilan and Nantou, and causing slight shaking of skyscrapers in Taipei. The epicenter was located 22.2 kilometers northeast of the Hualien County Government, near the coastal area, with tremors felt in various parts of Taiwan. The earthquake occurred at 11:46 AM, affecting over half of Taiwan.
