Former Taoyuan City Mayor and current Chairman of the Taiwan Strait Exchange Foundation, Cheng Wen-Tsan, was suddenly summoned by the Taoyuan District Prosecutors Office yesterday for alleged involvement in a corruption case related to land development in 2015. After overnight interrogation, he was detained and prohibited from meeting anyone early today. The Taoyuan District Court is scheduled to hold a detention hearing at 11 a.m. Cheng, known as 'clever Zhuge Liang' by former President Tsai Ing-wen, has a long political career with controversies. Details of the case are pending the court hearing. Current Taoyuan City Mayor Zhang Shancheng expressed full cooperation with the investigation, hoping for a fair resolution soon.
