On July 6, former Taoyuan City Mayor and Chairman of the Straits Exchange Foundation Cheng Wen-tsang was reported to have been detained and restricted from seeing visitors by the Taoyuan District Prosecutors Office. He was interrogated overnight and detained in the early morning. The swift actions of the prosecution have left seasoned media personnel astounded, with some commenting that it is more ruthless than previous administrations. Cheng Wen-tsang faces charges under the Anti-corruption Act for taking bribes related to official duties.
