On July 7, 2024, former Taoyuan City Mayor Cheng Wen-tsang was granted bail of 5 million NT dollars in a corruption case and the prosecution immediately lodged an appeal in court. The Taoyuan District Court swiftly processed the appeal as an urgent case to be sent to the High Court. Following the bail decision, Cheng Wen-tsang resigned from his position as Chairman of the Straits Exchange Foundation. The case has caused a stir in the political and social circles.
