Former Tainan Village Chiefs Sentenced for Accepting Millions in Bribes from 0206 Earthquake Construction Companies

Former village chiefs in Tainan surnamed Cai and Liu have been sentenced to 7 years and 6 months and 8 years and 2 months respectively for accepting bribes totaling 3.1 million and 1.14 million New Taiwan Dollars from construction companies for post-earthquake reconstruction work following the 0206 Tainan earthquake. The Supreme Court recently upheld the verdict after the appeal was rejected. The corruption case unfolded after investigations revealed the illegal transactions, resulting in convictions for the two former village chiefs.
