Former Taoyuan Mayor and Chairman of the Straits Exchange Foundation, Zheng Wenchan, was unexpectedly taken away by the Taoyuan Prosecutor's Office on the morning of the 5th due to alleged corruption charges, and after overnight interrogation, the prosecutor applied for detention and a no-visit order, with Taoyuan District Court granting bail of 5 million in the morning. KMT Legislator Hsu Yuzhen called for Zheng to resign as chairman, citing various controversial incidents during his tenure as mayor and suggesting political motives behind the investigation.
