The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced that Kansas, Nebraska, New Mexico, and Texas will be the first states to start voluntary pilot programs testing bulk milk tanks on dairy farms for bird flu, with more states likely to follow. This initiative aims to facilitate interstate movement of herds for farmers and assist public health officials in tracking the virus's spread. The program allows farmers to ship herds across state lines without additional testing if samples test negative for H5N1 for three consecutive weeks, aiming to curb the spread of bird flu in dairy cattle herds.
