HSBC has become the latest bank to leave the Net-Zero Banking Alliance (NZBA), following similar departures by major U.S. banks as government ambitions for net-zero emissions wane. While HSBC acknowledges the NZBA’s role in shaping emissions-reduction frameworks, it plans to update its net-zero transition strategy independently. This move raises concerns regarding the bank’s commitment to climate action, particularly in light of its decision to abandon a 2030 emissions-reduction target earlier this year.
