FTC Files Lawsuit Against Adobe for Concealing High Cancellation Fees and Difficult Unsubscribing Process

Reported 8 months ago

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) recently sued Adobe for hiding terms that charge high cancellation fees when terminating subscription services, luring consumers into default subscription plans, along with a complex unsubscribing process that hinders consumers' rights to cancel. In their lawsuit, FTC revealed that Adobe's subscription plans included hidden cancellation fees up to hundreds of dollars, operating on an annual basis where if canceled within the first year, users would be charged 50% of the remaining subscription amount. The commission also highlighted Adobe's complicated unsubscribing interface, stating that online cancellations involved navigating numerous pages and pop-ups to find the correct option, while phone cancellations faced difficulties in connection and multiple repetitions with different customer service representatives hindering the process. Adobe, on the other hand, maintains that their subscription terms are transparent and service is cost-efficient, asserting that unsubscribing is simple.
