Rheinmetall, a major German defense company, announced the signing of a contract with the German Ministry of Defense for the procurement of 6500 Unprotected Transport Vehicles (UTFs) configured as logistics trucks. This acquisition aims to significantly enhance long-range transport, maintenance, and logistical support capabilities, strengthening the ground forces of the German Army. The contract, valued at approximately €3.5 billion, covers different specifications of trucks including UTF 5t, UTF 15t, and the latest version of the 4x4 configuration UTF 3.5t. The initial order worth €313 million will purchase 610 UTF series trucks with container supports, communication kits, and remote-controlled weapon stations, enhancing their versatility. This procurement is part of Germany's efforts to modernize its equipment following events such as the Crimea annexation and ongoing conflicts, increasing the country's defense capabilities in response to potential threats.
