German Economy Minister and Vice Chancellor Haebek arrived in Beijing for a three-day visit, stressing the need to 'update' Germany's policy towards China. However, he acknowledged the challenges in EU-China trade relations and stated that resolving the conflict during his visit is impossible. The trade dispute between the EU and China has escalated, with potential punitive tariffs on electric cars from July and China launching anti-dumping investigations on EU pork products. Germany's exports to China dropped by 14% in May, while exports to the US increased. Haebek's visit aims to encourage dialogue and find common ground on fair competition, but he cannot negotiate on behalf of the EU. Overall, China is no longer Germany's top trading partner, with the US surpassing it in the first quarter of the year.
