TSMC (2330) is expanding globally, with plans for facilities in Dresden, Germany besides Arizona, USA and Kumamoto, Japan. While the US plants will use 2nm or more advanced processes, Japan and Germany will utilize mature processes. A senior executive from Infineon expressed hope that TSMC's German factory would also manufacture high-end chips with advanced processes. The German Semiconductor Industry Association seems hopeful about TSMC's plans, as Europe will need more advanced chips in the renewable energy sector in the coming years. However, the focus remains on market demand. A consultant from the Silicon Saxony Association in Germany mentioned that TSMC is currently moving towards 12nm processes, but the future remains open to possibilities.
