A report by Oliver Wyman predicts that the global market for carbon dioxide (CO2) removal credits could grow from $2.7 billion in 2023 to as much as $100 billion per year between 2030 and 2035, if current barriers are addressed. The increased demand for carbon removal credits comes from various sectors, but more efforts are needed to drive the necessary scale of projects. The report suggests that establishing agreed standards and guidance on the use of removals can help boost the market, which has seen $32 billion invested globally in CO2 removal projects to date.
