On June 25, 2024, the Taiwanese Environmental Protection Administration released the 'National Greenhouse Gas Emissions Inventory (2024 Edition)' according to international standards, showing that Taiwan's total greenhouse gas emissions in 2022 were 285.97 million metric tons of CO2 equivalent (MtCO2e), with a net reduction of 4.07% compared to 2021 and 1.77% compared to the baseline year of 2005. While global emissions hit a record high, Taiwan's efforts in energy transition and emission reduction have been effective, with a decrease in emissions despite economic recovery post-pandemic. Taiwan's initiatives align with the global push for a greener future, with continuous efforts towards a sustainable, low-carbon economy highlighted by President Lai's 'National Hope Project' and the country's progression towards a 'net-zero transformation' by 2050.
