According to the Taiwan Climate Change Projection Information and Adaptation Knowledge Platform (TCCIP), the global average temperature in May 2024 reached a new all-time high, marking 12 consecutive months of record high temperatures globally. Data from Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) indicated that the average surface air temperature worldwide in May 2024 was 0.65°C higher than the 1991-2020 average, with a continuous trend of setting new high temperature records for the corresponding month. The World Meteorological Organization and UK Met Office have also forecasted at least one of the next five years to be the hottest on record, highlighting the urgent need for climate action.
