Global Wafer Foundry: TSMC Market Share Rises Again

Reported about 1 year ago

The latest ranking of the top ten global wafer foundries was announced by TrendForce on June 12, 2024, showing TSMC, Samsung, and SMIC taking the top three spots in terms of revenue in the first quarter. TSMC's market share increased from 61.2% to 61.7% from the previous quarter, with only a low single-digit quarterly growth expected for the second quarter. The first quarter saw challenges in the foundry industry due to seasonal slowdowns in consumer electronics, while only AI servers stood out as a bright spot in the supply chain. TSMC's revenue slightly dropped due to a slowdown in consumer stockpiling, but with expectations for growth in the second quarter driven by Apple's preparation cycle and steady demand for AI servers. Samsung, on the other hand, faced revenue declines in the first quarter with market share remaining at 11%. SMIC's revenue performance surpassed competitors in the first quarter, reaching a market share of 5.7% and rising to third place, benefiting from the trend of domestic replacements in China and demand for peripheral ICs in new Chinese smartphones and OLED DDIs.
