General Motors is recalling over 132,000 heavy-duty pickups in the U.S. due to a defect that can cause tailgates to open unexpectedly, even when parked. This includes 2024 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra 2500 and 3500 models, which join a previous recall of 323,000 trucks. The malfunction is linked to water entering electronic gate release switches, prompting the gates to unlatch, which could lead to cargo falling onto the road. Owners are advised to ensure their tailgates are latched until repairs are made, with notifications set to begin on January 13.
