Mashdigi update: June 28, 2024, 12:57 PM Google announced the strengthening of its translation services using the large-scale natural language model PaLM 2, introducing 110 new languages to Google Translate, focusing on enhancing many languages within Africa and even adapting Cantonese expressions in Chinese to align with translation customs in Hong Kong. This update significantly boosts translation capabilities and AI language learning since the last major update in May 2022, with Google employing PaLM 2 to improve translation quality by studying languages within language families closely. The update benefits approximately 614 million people globally (equivalent to 8% of the world's population), with a quarter of the new languages corresponding to those from Africa. The update includes the web version of Google Translate, as well as versions for iOS and Android platforms, enhancing accessibility across different devices and platforms.
