During a meeting of the Legislative Yuan's Foreign Affairs and National Defense Committee, Nationalist Party lawmakers proposed an amendment to the Military Service Act to restore education subsidies for children of retired colonels and above, which was previously removed in 2017. Despite support from the Ministry of National Defense and Veterans Affairs Council, the proposal was blocked by Democratic Progressive Party legislators who emphasized the need for legal and appropriate methods, resulting in a 6-3 vote against the amendment. The case will be reviewed again in the future as disagreements persist between the parties.
